About our Preamplifiers

Preamplifiers (also commonly refered to as *Line Stages*) serve as the central control system for your stereo. Most believe the sole purpose of the preamplifier is to set volume and choose a source for music. While that is one function of a preamplifer, its true purpose is to handle very delicate low level audio signals and hand them off to an amplifier without damaging the original signal. It doesn't matter how good your CD player or turntable is if the preamplifier degrades its sound. So what separates an ordinary preamplifier from a world class preamplifier? Quite simply, the best preamplifiers do not damage the audio signal as it passes it through. In order to not damage the signal, a preamplifier must be very carefully designed and use only the highest quality components. Much like a symphony orchestra, a preamplifier is only as good as the individual players and conductor. Bernstein can only get so much out of a high school band and a high school teacher will only get so much out of the London Symphony Orchstra. Both Bernstein and the LSO are needed to create a world-class performance. A good preamplifier gives you the pieces you need to make that happen. Anything less will limit the full potential of your stereo system.
